Do Dodson Designs Christmas Home Tour

This year, I decided it was high time to take you on a Do Dodson Designs Christmas home tour. I wanted to do this for the last few years but didn’t feel our home was ready for a tour. Then I took a step back and decided to go for it because it’s not about perfection and being magazine-worthy, it’s about inspiring others.

From our house to yours, Merry Christmas!

Come on in, and welcome to our home! This year has been a year of changes, that’s for sure. We started in January 2021 with the exterior of our home and painted our RED bricks. I thought my husband was going to have a spell. But after it was all done, he admitted that he liked the change. Those guys and their bricks. It’s almost as bad as painting wood.

It made such a massive difference in the look that we decided it was time to take our DIY updates indoors. And that’s just what we did.

You know that saying, “one project leads to another?” It’s true! But now, our Do Dodson Designs Christmas home tour means even more to us. The upgrades to our builder-grade home are getting us closer to our wannabe modern farmhouse. It’s about 90% complete, and we plan on updating the bathrooms this next year.

The first thing we did was remove all the carpet and replace it with ceramic tile. The tile looks like wood but has the durability of tile. We couldn’t be happier with its performance. Having three rescue pups that have the run of our home is a challenge in itself, but we love them nonetheless.

Missing from the photo is #OHTALLULAH, AKA the Diva Chihuahua. She was taking a nap and couldn’t be bothered with a photo.

But Lexi, AKA Louise, and Bud were happy to pose as long as I promised multiple snacks.

Our Entry way – Naked Christmas Tree

As you enter our home, you’ll notice a narrow entryway. We struggled to find a tree that would fit the space. Thank goodness I found this fantastic 9ft foot pre-lite skinny tree.

Our ceilings are 10 ft throughout our home, so this tree was perfect. I love the feeling I get when we walk through the door.

If you peep around the corner to the right, you’ll see our dining area. It’s the most fun of all the spaces in our home for a very good reason. The WALL! I’ll be showing you more a bit later in the home tour.

And just on the other side of that naked tree is a roadside find! My home is filled with them! Yep, one of the many treasures that I found curbside on one of my Sunday long walks. This day I walked 20-miles, and boy did I score big time! CLICK HERE to see what it looked like before the makeover.

That’s Not All – Do Dodson Designs Christmas Home Tour

Our home wasn’t the only makeover and remodel of 2021. Guess what, or should I say who got a makeover? Or should I say a DO-over? 😁

As of today, I am healthier than I have been in a very long time. I’ve dropped 50lbs, and currently, I’m training for a walking marathon scheduled for some time in January 2022. I’ll be sharing more about it after I complete my challenge. #moveyourbody

Hubby has a hard time keeping up with me now. Bring on the next project!

Fireplace Upgrade – Makeover

You know I’m going to add my touch to everything in our home. Why not?

Our fireplace was a boring traditional style (don’t hate me because I’m different) that wasn’t working for me. I think I finally decided on a style that is timeless in my modern farmhouse setting. CLICK HERE to see how I created this amazing chippy paint look. Give me all the chippy goodness!

And CHECK OUT these adorable pine cone gnomes—a cute and easy way to add a touch of whimsy to your Christmas mantel. One of my many DIY Christmas crafts.

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stocking were hung by the chimney with care in the hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

Dining Area – Do Dodson Designs Christmas Home Tour

I get questions all the time about my “chalkboard wall.” I designed this wall for staging my furniture makeovers, but it often gets used as a creative outlet. I’m still a child at heart and when I feel the need to “color” I grab my colored chalk and let my mind go where ever it wants.

This year when my daughter-in-law asked if she could write on my wall at our annual Christmas get-together, I ran to get the chalk and eraser. She is uber-talented with such a creative mind. I guess that’s why we click!

This was the result of her artistic talent.

I LOVE this string of oversized Christmas lights. It’s so festive and a good scale for this massive wall.

And what would a Do Dodson Christmas Home Tour be without kiss-tletoe? Isn’t my daughter-in-law clever? I told you she was creative!

The smiles, giggles, and eye-rolling were just precious as friends and family members stood under it to pose for a photo. We made so many memories that night, and I have already secured a promise from my daughter-in-law that she would come back next year and create another fantastic Christmas chalkboard wall art design.

The table in our dining area is a family heirloom that belonged to my hubby’s Grandmother. Solid mahogany and boy is it heavy. We keep tri-dolly casters under each leg so that we can move them for easy cleaning and when I need to stage furniture from the wall. The dollys are removed whenever we have family and friends over.

Of course, the table got a makeover too. To see the table makeover, before and after, CLICK HERE.

Pine cones, wood beads, beautiful fabric, chunky candles, and a dough bowl. It’s a quick way to decorate a table for Christmas. The lovely Santa belonged to my Mother-in-law that passed away last year. I used a glass cloche and some dried hydrangeas from my garden to add pops of my favorite green.

Master Bedroom – Do Dodson Designs Christmas Home Tour

Cozy, clean, and peaceful is the look and feel in our master bedroom. This was the last room that we updated, and I don’t understand why I waited so long.

To add a splash of Christmas red, I added one of my Mom’s hand quilted masterpieces to the foot of our bed. I’m so blessed to have many quilts from my Mom and Grandma. I cherish them and use them to decorate my spaces often. You can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the girl. My country roots run deep and you’ll see it splashed all around our home.

The plan was to hang wreaths from the sliding barn door window coverings. Guess that will have to wait until the following year. Time just got away this year. Wouldn’t that look great?!

A tiny Christmas tree tucked in the corner again added the right amount to Christmas without overdoing it.

The nightstands were also a redo. CLICK HERE to see how I added a modern look to the drawer fronts.

I purchased a few snowflake pillow slips from Amazon to add to my bedding that will easily transition from Christmas to the winter months.

And the modern canvas wall art looks close enough to a snowflake for me. LOL, I love all the neutral tones in this room.

Holiday Kitchen – Do Dodson Designs Christmas Home Tour

Our kitchen also had some updates and a few significant additions. The biggest was adding this shiplap accent wall that wraps around the passthrough into the kitchen and the backsplash.

Updating the cabinet doors with new modern farmhouse hardware pulls made a huge difference in the overall feel of this space. A modern touch.

And those mini Christmas wreaths made me so happy when I hung them from the cabinet doors. It’s a quick and easy way to decorate your kitchen cabinets for Christmas. CLICK HERE to see the trick I used to hang them without making holes in my wood cabinet doors.

Tiny Christmas trees were spread throughout our home. Again, I love the naked Christmas tree. No ornaments, no lights, just a beautiful green tree in its natural state.

Drop cloth curtains - Modern Farmhouse Update

That farmhouse sink? I had to beg for it. I’ve always wanted one and we found a drop-in farmhouse kitchen sink that allowed us to use the existing countertops. That saved us a lot of money!

After it was all said and done, my hubby is as proud of our kitchen as I am. He’s in it all the time!

Shiplap Accent Wall And Backsplash

Because our kitchen is small and lacks cabinet space, we opted to use those 10ft ceilings to our advantage and used a vintage ladder rack to hang our pots and pans from. It works! Thank goodness we are both tall.

Mini Wreaths For Kitchen Cabinets

Our kitchen is small, that’s for sure. Someday we hope to venture out and build a custom home with a gourmet kitchen. How nice would that be to have a space to cook in where we don’t do the bumpty bump?

But somehow, we manage to cook, clean, and serve our big family of 20+ and growing.

Meet Me Under The Kiss-tletoe

LOL, meet me under the kiss-tletoe, and I’ll tell you no lies. Here is one of the episodes of eye-rolling I was telling you about. But Mr. Honey Do didn’t miss a beat. He always plays along.

We sure did enjoy our Christmas with our family and especially have enjoyed sharing our first-ever Do Dodson Designs Christmas Home Tour 2021 with you. We consider you family too.

As always, we would love to hear from you in the comment section below, or just let us know you stopped by.

We want to thank you all for a fantastic year and can’t wait to share even more in 2022.

From the Dodson Family to yours, wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

    1. Thanks, Mindy! We love the tile floors. We purchased the tile from Home Depot (links in this blog post) and hired an outside contractor to do the work. The existing tile in some areas had to be removed before the new tile could go in. It was a messy job, but I would do it all again. You’ll love the durability of the tiles. You can always add area rugs if your feet get cold. I hope this helps. Merry Christmas! 🙂

    1. Hi Leianne!
I found this stone-washed linen spread on Etsy. Because I wanted it to hang to the floor, I had it custom-made to size, but they make other size options. The quality is outstanding. It’s lightweight so that I can use it all year round. Email me at [email protected] and I’ll share the link with you. 🙂

My best advice to you is to make small changes. I count calories, and it works for me. Also, move your body every day. It takes time to lose weight and get healthy. I will be sharing more very soon. 🙂 xo
