Furniture flipping is hardly new news these days. It seems like everyone is doing it. People have been fixing up old furniture for as long as I can remember. Today I thought it would be fun to look back at my best furniture-flipping ideas of 2022. You might want to think twice before throwing out that old dresser.

Furniture Flipping Ideas 2022 Tutorials
I can hardly believe that 2022 is almost over. It’s like I’m starting a new project, and I look up, and we’re in December. When you love what you do, time sure does fly by.
So let’s take a walk down memory lane. Some of you may be familiar with some of these projects, or you might find some inspiration for your next furniture flip.
Wood Furniture Flipping Ideas
#1 Stripping Wood Furniture With Oven Cleaner
This furniture-flipping technique is new, so I had to try it. I had my doubts and still have mixed feelings about this idea. It wasn’t hard, but it was messy. But then again, stripping wood furniture always is. CLICK HERE to get the complete tutorial.
Flipping this wood coffee table was a bit of a challenge, but with the help of the right tool, I removed the curvy old legs and added some new modern ones. And a beautiful paint finish! CLICK HERE to see how differently this one looks now.
It seems like I did a lot of wood finishes in 2022. But that doesn’t mean I skimped on the paint.
This old desk was left behind in the new-to-us home we purchased earlier this year. It was a match made in heaven, and now I sit at this desk daily while sharing what I love with you. I’m sitting at it now. CLICK HERE to see the wood and paint makeover.
Stenciled Furniture Flipping
Stenciling on wood furniture and stenciling on painted wood furniture is very different. But both can add interest and design to your furniture. After finding this MCM side table, I knew I would be keeping it for my own.
No, I don’t keep all the furniture I flip. I would need a mansion to store it in, and I’m pretty sure that’s not happening.

More Wood Finishes – Continued
I guess you can call this the year of wood for Do Dodson Designs. I didn’t realize until I went back and started searching that I discovered so many wood finishes in 2022.
While I love painted furniture, I see beauty in the wood, and when it looks like this, it’s NOT getting painted. Again, I kept this buffet/dresser after I flipped it, and it lives in my bedroom now.

I used it for a while in my last home while waiting in line to get the once over, but not until I cleaned it thoroughly and gave it a good smelly scent. CLICK HERE to learn how to eliminate the musty smell in old dresser drawers.
NO DIY Skills Needed For This Furniture Flip
Well, I don’t know if this counts as furniture flipping, but it is one of my all-time best DIY projects. I needed a coffee table for my covered porch but didn’t want the traditional outdoor furniture.
So, I went thrift shopping in my shed, where I found these treasures. A piece of leftover butcherblock from our kitchen remodel (because I never throw away wood) and two old wooden crates.

Furniture Flipping With Paint
#7 How To Paint Metal Furniture With A Brush
See, I did paint something other than my kitchen cabinets in 2022.
This antique steamer trunk was given to me by a friend that works in estate sales. If I hadn’t taken it, it would have been thrown in the trash. You and I both know almost everything can be salvaged.
It turned out to be a real treasure, but not without a good deal of work. It’s now the perfect storage for the Grand kid’s toys, and you would never know it’s a toy box.

Have you ever had a piece of furniture you couldn’t part with? This buffet table is one of them; believe it or not, it has four different looks. CLICK HERE to see the latest finish.

Modern Wooden Furniture Makeover
#9 White And Modern Wood Dresser Makeover
THIS wood dresser was orange! Sometimes old wood pieces turn orange and amber over time. It was going to be a challenge, but I wasn’t going to give up without a fight, and I sure wasn’t giving up on a piece of solid wood furniture. They don’t make them like this anymore.
With the help of a furniture stripping tool, some modifications, and wood filler in 999 holes, it looks like a brand-new dresser.

Two-Toned Black And Wood Makeover
#10 Two-Toned Dresser Makeover
This small dresser got an edgy two-toned black and wood makeover that, in my book, is timeless. It may be trendy for some, but I can see this finish working well with many different styles. The clean lines and warm wood tones can be masculine and feminine.

#11 How To Update Old Furniture
What are the BEST ways to update old furniture? Well, if you really want to know, I have so many ideas and tutorials.
Thrift stores, yard sales, an occasional garage sale, and even in the trash are where I find many of my treasures before giving them an updated look. Curbside finds are always a bonus. I call those a SCORE!

#12 Faux Linen Paint Technique
Lastly, try your hand at this trendy faux linen paint technique. My inspiration for this piece was from other furniture flippers that made it look so easy.
This technique that’s easy to master and can add a level of organic sophistication to any plain dresser.

It’s been an amazing year full of changes and challenges, but one thing I know for sure, I will always find the time to create: me, music, tools of the trade, and paint. My creative outlet keeps me sane in this crazy world we live in, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂

Hi Sherry!
Duly noted, and looking back, I can see how this would not be easy. I do appreciate the feedback and will make adjustments in the future. Have a Merry Christmas, and I can’t wait to share more with you in 2023. 🙂 xo
Gosh! What a summary! You were very busy in 2022. Thank you for sharing these highlights. I’m intrigued by the faux linen painting
Hi Anna! Thank you.
It really is a lovely finish and one that I think I’ll be doing again. Maybe with blue for a faded blue jean fabric look. More to come in 2023. I’m excited to share more! 🙂 xo
Thanks Do!
The walk back through the year was fun. I remember them all. I really liked so many of them but at the time you created them, I loved your “new” desk and I loved your raw wood, sideboard/dresser that you kept for your bedroom. Looking, now, through your 12 favorites of the year I still love those two pieces most of all. And still jealous of that desk. So glad you kept it.
Merry Christmas and looking forward to your creations in the new year. Have a blessed new year.
Hey Joanne,
It’s always good to hear from you. I have to agree with you that those two are my faves as well. I’m looking forward to so pretty cool projects in 2023.
Merry Christmas, friend. 🙂 xo
Do, you have so many fabulous ideas. It’s hard for me to chose a favorite one. I love how you can completely transform an ugly piece of furniture into something stunning!
You are so kind, Tammy. I’m glad you enjoyed this post. 🙂
